How to Connect Roundcube Webmail to the Gmail App (or Any Mobile Email App)

Accessing your emails directly through webmail can be a bit tricky and limiting, especially when using interfaces like Roundcube via cPanel. A more seamless and feature-rich experience is to connect your webmail to an external email app like Gmail. In this tutorial, we'll walk you through how to do exactly that.

Tip: The default way to access webmail is by visiting example.com/webmail, replacing example.com with your actual domain. This works if your hosting is managed through cPanel.

However, formatting limitations in Roundcube and the clunky mobile interface often make it necessary to use third-party apps. Let's dive into how to set up your Roundcube webmail in the Gmail app.

Step-by-Step: Connect Webmail to Gmail App

  1. Download the Gmail App

Available on both the Play Store and App Store.

  2. Open Gmail & Add New Account

Tap your profile icon at the top-right corner.

    Select "Add another account".

  3. Choose Account Type

Select "Other (IMAP)" when prompted to choose an account type.

Some apps might show POP3—you can choose this based on your preference, but IMAP is recommended for syncing across multiple devices.

  4. Enter Your Email Address

    Example: info@example.com.

  5. Configure Incoming Mail Settings (IMAP)

    Password: Enter your email password.

    IMAP Server: mail.example.com.

    Port: 993

    Security Type: SSL/TLS

  6. Configure Outgoing Mail Settings (SMTP)

Password: Enter your email password again.

    SMTP Server: mail.example.com

    Port: 465

    Security Type: SSL/TLS

  7. Set Your Display Name

This is the name that will appear when recipients receive your email.

  8. Complete Setup

Tap Next, and you're all set! Your webmail is now fully integrated into your Gmail app.

Connecting your cPanel-based webmail (like Roundcube) to the Gmail app is a smart move for better usability, mobile notifications, and advanced email formatting. While Roundcube is functional, third-party email clients offer a far more flexible experience for everyday use—especially on the go.

If you're managing multiple business emails or just prefer a cleaner UI, this setup ensures you never miss an important message.

Pro Tip: You can use the same setup process for other apps like Outlook, Apple Mail, or BlueMail—just be sure to select IMAP and input the correct mail server details from your hosting provider.

Happy emailing!
